“Music has got me, it drives me, it compels me, I can never imagine not having a song to sing, to write, to share”. For Lissy Stanton, it’s this intense passion for her music and her fuel ignited live delivery of it that resonates deeply with her audience. It’s this special voice, which captures your attention, and one big megawatt trademark smile.
This wild child, who is passionate and down to earth combines her gorgeous vocals with her own inimitable style of piano playing that reminds you of Carole King or Kate Miller-Heidke. Throw a tin whistle in and you have dynamite. Lissy adds a rock solid, in the pocket funky groove to complete the mix with percussion, bass and guitar. Lissy has been a force to be reckoned with for over a decade, on the independent original circuit.
Lissy has worked and collaborated with artists such as Jimmy Duke-Yonge (Pirana, Bullamakanka, Slim Dusty), Geordie Leach (Rose Tattoo), Phil Eizenberg (The Ferretts), Rod Coe (Producer and Bass Player for Slim Dusty) and Matt Taylor (Chain). Her band line ups have included players such as Marty Handley (Goanna), Peter Leighton (Buffalo, Stevie Wright, Jeff St John, Atmospheres), David Neden (John Farnham Band), Robbie Walsh (Dynamic Hypnotics), Mattie Barker (The Lamplights) and Luke Pammenton (Soundscapes).
In 2016, Lissy is preparing a new album for release 2017. “This is something special….very very special….breathtaking” she says “2016 has commenced with a continuation of pre-recording my new songs, mixed with a lot of creative songwriting sessions. I am working with a new producer Scott Bird and his fabulous team from “RiverSong Music Studios”. Trudi and Scott Bird have a passion and vision to see artists develop their own unique style and sound. Lissy is so excited to be working with Scott, Trudi and the Riversong team as part of their artists line up.
During 2013 to 2015 Lissy’s successful self titled album was released, with subsequent tours and shows. A major highlight was Lissy joined Matt Taylor from the iconic Australian Blues Band ‘Chain’ on two of his “Oz Blues East Coast” tour shows. Lissy also became the voice and sound of Nina Simone for the Eizenberg Production and is a sort after pianist for Theatre Stage Productions. With feature performances at The Tweed Valley Food Festival and the Salt Village Community Carols both events swelling with crowds over 5000, Lissy performed with artists such as Darren Percival (Australian idol) , Roger Day (Ten Tenors) and in 2014 Anja Nissen ( The Voice ) at these events. Rounding out 2015 with performances at festivals such as Murwillumbah Country Roots Festival and recording and releasing the single ‘Chocolate’. The song was co- written with Martin Handley and recorded at the beautiful ” Water Tank ” studios with producer/ sound engineer Govinda Doyle. The single ” Chocolate” has been receiving good radio airplay.
Lissy received 5 Finalist Category Nominations in the 2012 Australian National MusicOz Awards ranging from Folk, Pop, Country, Alternate and Rock Categories all from her successful 2012 Self Titled Album as well as Highly Commended Awards in previous years. Lissy’s songs have been Nominated as Finalist’s in Best New Recording Artist, Best Female Artist, Album of the Year and Jazz categories in the Australian North Coast Entertainment Industry’s Dolphin Awards.
Her fresh, original piano driven songs have an international flavour and an underground feel. Lissy will always seek out collaborative, inspirational and creative environments, which her original compositions place her firmly in.
